The subject matter of this article is the historiography of Simbirsk heraldry, as well as the emergence, development and evolution of local emblems (seals and coats of arms) in Simbirsk region in the XVII-XIX centuries. The work is based on the analysis of the previous studies, and on the analysis of legal acts. The article emphasizes on the inner continuity of Simbirsk heraldic symbolism until 1917 and logical succession of its traditions in Ulyanovsk region at the present stage.
