The paper observed the letters the Naib exchanged round Dagestan in the middle of the XIX century. The study presented a brief review of a range of Arabic-type epistolary instruments of Dagestani origin- kept in the Collection of manuscripts at the Institute of History, Archeology and Ethnography (IAE). The set of Arabic-type letters at the Manuscript Collection of the Institute of History, Archeology and Ethnography at the Dagestan Research Centre under Russian Academy of Sciences is noted to be very abundant in its subject scope. Letters of the middle of the XIX century the Naib exchanged with the qadis (Muslim judge) and spokespersons from various villages and jamaats of Dagestan take a special place in the Collection, namely: instructions and admonition to Naibs, orders imposing fines and penalties, verdicts on resolution of litigation, appeals to particular communities; details on the inner situation at the Imamat, data on the course of military actions; complaints and petitions to the Naibs, official letters to the Imperial authorities, etc. The paper presented interesting and abundant details to explore in various social-and-economic and political studies, namely the data on wartime episodes, the listing of duties the Naib must perform, for instance duties in procurement of produce and ammunition for troops, details on trade and administrative management, on settlement of disputes between the communities etc, Introducing the documents into the academic intercourse shall give scholars an opportunity to restore and interpret the events back in history of the XIX century in Dagestan.
