The study examines the historical traditions of Ireland. These traditions are represented by both an early period characterized by such literary corpus as dinnsenchas and the annals written later and been more familiar to the whole of Europe. The historical world in Ireland is diverse, original as in other countries but local identities have left their mark on understanding the past and its interpretation. The issue under review is relevant as the research focuses on plenty of historical material, which is narrowly defined in Russian science. The author analyzes the main historical monuments (such as genealogies, sagas, legal records). The researcher examines the synthesis of the historiographic tradition of the continent and the island and their mutual influence as well. In addition, the annals, their specific nature, purview, and classification are detailed.
