Introduction: the article considers the historical experience and the current state of legal regulation of domestic criminal proceedings in the context of the influence on its reformation of national-historical traditions, mentalities and social expectations of the Russian people. It puts forward suggestions for improvements to the Criminal Procedure Code of the Russian Federation. Materials and Methods: the study employed a range of methods, including dialectical-materialistic, logical, historical, and historical-comparative approaches. Results: the analysis provided proposals for potential amendments to the Code of Criminal Procedure of the Russian Federation. Discussion and Conclusions: the proposed legislative changes are designed to reinforce the adversarial principles, humanity, and fairness of domestic criminal proceedings.
