Three novels by Beryl Bainbridge - "The Birthday Boys", "Every Man for Himself" and "Master Georgie" - are analysed in the context of the British novel of the 1990s. The novels are primarily studied from the point of view of history representation in the texts. Continuity of the classic XIX century historical novel tradition is traced as reflected in the writer's works. The author's innovative approach to the historical novel genre is revealed.
