This article is devoted to the presidential elections in the United States in 1828, which are still considered by many politicians to be the most scandalous in the history of the country. It was a struggle between the supporter of the National Republican Party, John Quincy Adams, and the supporter of the Democratic Party, Andrew Jackson. At the time of the election, John Quincy Adams was already in office, and he was going to remain in that post for a second term. President Adams and the Republicans represented the interests of those who owned the property. Many presidential supporters felt that wealthy property owners should control the government. They were afraid of popular government or government elected by common people. Andrew Jackson and Democrats represented common people. They did not feel that the rich have more rights to manage than the poor. They believed in the democratic right of all men to equal participation in the government. As a result of this presidential race, facts began to surface that discredited the honor and dignity of both candidates. Andrew Jackson won the election, but lost the most expensive — his wife, who could not stand the scandal. This article is of interest to students, graduate students and teachers of higher educational institutions.
