The article is devoted to one of the numerous dynasties of the clergy that bore the name of Glagolev. Representatives of this family during the 18th-19th centuries served in various rural churches of the Kolomna and then Tula Dioceses. By their example, the vicissitudes of the daily life of the rural clergy in the Synodal period are shown, fluctuations in the status and positions of clergy and clergymen within the clergy, the mechanisms of inheritance of parish places, and the growth of the educational level of the clergy during the 19th century are considered. Using the example of one of the representatives of the family who took monastic tonsure, the author shows the problems that existed in the monastic environment in the Synodal era. The fate of members of the Glagolev family after the revolution, their gradual break with the church environment and adaptation to new living conditions are also considered. To the dynasty described in the article belonged a member of the All-Russian Local Council of 1917-1918 from the laity fpr the St. Petersburg Diocese M. F. Glagolev and the artist and art critic G. A. Glagoleva. The poetess M. I. Tsvetaeva and astronomer V. P. Scheglov were related to the Glagolevs.
