For a long time, Russian church historiography did not seriously deal with the history of small parishes. It is only recently that works have begun to appear with the help of which one can get acquainted with the history of the Orthodox Church. One of the best examples of this is the book published last year by Dmitry Andreevich Karpuk, Candidate of Theology and Associate Professor of the St. Petersburg Theological Academy, about the Church of St. Nicholas and the Martyr Queen Alexandra. Created by the Putilov workers, the church underwent all the hardships of the last century and has been reborn like a phoenix from the ashes in recent years. The research is based on rich archival material and eyewitness accounts. An important achievement of the reviewed work is the absence of “forbidden topics”. From the point of view of the reviewer, it can become a kind of prototype for the creation of monographs about the life of St. Petersburg / Petrograd parishes from the end of the 19th century to the present day. During the review, each section of the book was analyzed, highlighting its distinctive features.
