History and the main research results of the Department of Archaeology of the Institute of Language, Literature and History in 1970-2020

The most important achievements in the field of archaeological research of the Institute of Language, Literature and History in the territory of the North-East of the European Russia in 1970- 2020 are characterized. It is noted that in the preceding period of archaeological study of the region (late 1950s – early 1970s of XX century) a sufficiently representative source base was established. Sites of all archaeological epochs – from the Paleolithic to the Middle Ages - were discovered and a solid foundation for further archaeological research was laid. In the 1970s-2020 the main directions of research of archaeologists of the Institute were to study the peculiarities of the initial settling of the region by man, to identify the main events of ethno-cultural and socio-economic history and to determine the directions of cultural relations of the ancient population of the European North-East.
