The article is based on the analysis of the syntactic stucture of a classical French sentence through its historical development (XVIth - XVIIIth centuries). The author states that the history of forming a classical French sentence and its grammatical categories disproves the existence of universal deep syntactic structures as in the system of one language there co-exist two grammaticalized invariants of the simple sentence reflecting two fundamentally different modes of thinking.
