The article traces the development of interpretive preference, starting with the method of Warburg, who sought the source of Botticelli’s paintings in the literature, to hypotheses on the origin of their programs from the Neoplatonic concepts. The important discoveries of Western art critics and historians, revealing the connection design pattern with the historical and cultural context of the era of Lorenzo the Magnificent. Particular attention is paid to the hypothesis of Edgar Wind, and discussions around it among modern researchers.
