Kara-abyzskaya culture is the most well-studied archaeological culture on the territory of modern Bashkortostan. Its study began in the early 20th century. The article describes the most prominent period in its study, the 20th century, when Kara-abyzskaya culture was recognized as a separate archaeological culture, and the pioneers in its study provided their approaches to periodization and interpretation of archaeological sources.
