The history of studying of the Srednevolzhskaya culture

The article is devoted to the history of studying the mature and late Neolithic Srednevolzhskaya (Middle Volga) archeological culture in the forest-steppe Volga region. The author overviews various theories and hypotheses of researchers regarding the all Neolithic cultures of the region, and emphasizes some controversial issues in particular. He suggests a periodization of the historiography of the Neolithic in the Middle Volga region. Special attention is paid to the cultural and chronological definition of ceramics in the works of researchers.
