History of the chair of homiletics of the imperial St. Petersburg theological academy

The article presents a brief history of the department of Homiletics at St. St. Petersburg Theological Academy in the second half of XIX - early XX centuries. A development of this discipline was associated with a range of difficulties which are stated in the present study. For a half of a century - from 1869 to 1918 - Homiletics in the capital higher theological school was alternately taught by N.I. Barsov, N.K. Nikolsky, I.E. Evseev, hieromonk Venianim (Fedchenkov) and N.A. Konovalov. Each of these professors made a contribution to the development of their chair.
