The history of a wood collection in the National Museum of the Republic of Bashkortostan

The study deals with the history of acquiring the wood collection in the National Museum of the Republic of Bashkortostan. An attempt is made to systematize this collection for further research. The acquisition of museum wooden items and building up the collection under review are closely related to the history of the National Museum. The first wooden pieces were exhibited in the museum in the second half of the 19th century. Nowadays, there are more than two thousand items in the wood collection. Wooden exhibits are grouped according to functions, materials, and manufacturing technology, i.e. based on the main classification criteria of museum collections. The research presents a detailed classification of wooden and wood-based museum items by a case study of household utensils that are the largest and most diverse components of the wooden collection.
