The history of the Filomafitskiye St. Petersburg clerical dynasty

In Russia, there are several dynasties of the Filomafitskiye, all descendants of clergy, who are not, however, related to each other. Tis is because the name has a seminary (“artificial”) origin. Tis article is devoted one family of the Filomafitskiye whose representatives were clergymen in various temples in St. Petersburg and the St. Petersburg Province in the 19th - early 20th centuries. Te first bearers of the family name came from the parish of the village of Oyatskoye in Novoladozhsky District. Te second generation of the Filomafitskiye served in the historical districts of St. Petersburg that comprised its closest suburbs before the revolution - in Lesnoye, Porokhovoye and Rybatskoye. To the third generation of the dynasty belonged three priests who served in various churches throughout the province. Among the Filomafitskiye there were clergy of rural and urban parishes, as well as house church (including military parishes). Representatives of the clan did not enter history as outstanding church figures, but their fates allow us to imagine the life of ordinary Orthodox clergy before the revolution. In this article, based on archival documents, the family history of St. Petersburg’s Filomafitskiye is described.
