The history of breeding spring wheat in the FPBSI "Volga Region Research Institute of Selection and Seed Farming" and its practical results

The article presents the history of breeding of spring wheat in the FPBSI Volga RISS, since the foundation of the Kinel breeding station of P. N. Konstantinov and up to the present day. The main directions of breeding work on spring wheat at the institute were reflected; the main methods of creating new varieties and the principles of choice of the initial material are shown. Scientists-breeders engaged in selection of spring wheat, and made the main and invaluable contribution to the development of this scientific direction are presented. A brief characteristic of the varieties of spring wheat, created at the Institute and having the greatest distribution in the region was reduced. The main directions of work of the laboratory of selection and seed production of spring wheat to date and the existing scientific groundwork for priority researches were shown.
