The article tells that all peoples, who lived in the North Caucasus, did not have their written language. For external communication with other ethnic groups they used other written signs using Turkish, Arab, Georgian and Persian alphabets that considerably impeded communication; therefore the mountaineers faced the vital necessity to develop their own written language. Based on historical materials, the author highlights the early origin stages of the North Caucasian written language developed by the local people themselves and the process of creating their own written language culture by Ossetins, Dagestanians, Ingushs, Circassians, Adygeis and other mountaineers. It is proved that the North-Caucasian culture bearers made a great contribution to the creation of the written language and the spiritual heritage of their nations. It enhanced the development of education among mountaineers and the formation of a new pleiad of Caucasian thinkers who followed up the enlightenment of their peoples.
