History of formation of the academic science in the Republic of Komi

Presidents of the Academy of Sciences of our country have played an enormous role in the history of development of the academic science in the Republic of Komi. There is shown the importance of visits to Syktyvkar of the Presidents of the Academy of Sciences and their personal participation in the solution of problems of development and transformation of the academic centre into a large and perspective Centre of Science.In 1933 academician A.P.Karpinsky organized the work of the Pechora brigade of the Polar Commission of the USSR Academy of Sciences, together with this brigade he made a trip to Syktyvkar that was a bright political event of that time. The photograph of academician A.P. Karpinsky and members of the Pechora brigade of the USSR Academy of Sciences with the members of the Presidium of the Komi Regional Executive Committee, Regional Committee of the CPSU(B) and Regional Planning Committee is given.In 1972 President of the USSR Academy of Sciences academician M.V.Keldysh visited the Komi Branch of the USSR Academy of Sciences. President M.V.Keldysh and heads of the Academy of Sciences accompanying him listened to and discussed scientific reports of the basic divisions of the Komi Branch of the USSR Academy of Sciences. All that predetermined the strategy of further development and creation of the infrastructure of the Komi Branch of the USSR Academy of Sciences. The authorities of the Komi Republic took part in this discussion that had essentially helped in further realisation of the plans.President of the USSR Academy of Sciences academician A.P.Aleksandrov was the so-called "godfather" of the creation of the Ural Branch of the USSR Academy of Sciences and considerably helped in building of the Academic town in Syktyvkar.President of the USSR Academy of Sciences academician G.I.Marchuk had detailed conversation on the problems of the Komi Science Centre, Ural Branch, Russian Academy of Sciences. He noted weak preparation of scientific personnel of higher qualification - doctors of sciences. This problem was actively discussed for several years and real work in this direction was carried out. G.I.Marchuk repeatedly was interested in successes of the Komi Science Centre, Ural Branch, RAS in this direction. To the 50 anniversary of the Komi Science Centre, Ural Branch, RAS about 50 doctors of sciences worked in the Centre.The president of the Russian Academy of Sciences Yu.S.Osipov visited the Komi Science Centre, Ural Branch, RAS in June 1994. With his participation there took place the detailed discussion of scientific work in all scientific divisions of the Centre with participation of scientific personnel and the persons accompany-ing Yu.S.Osipov in this trip, and also republican and city authorities. The Komi Science Centre received new opportunity for development of scientific research institutes, laboratories, housing construction.
