The research deals with the 85th anniversary of the first stage of the Moscow Metro. An attempt is made to study the history of the Moscow Metro’s first stage in the overall social and cultural context of the epoch, including ideological patterns and the economic situation. The research examines the design and construction of the first-stage stations from a historical perspective. Both ground and underground facilities of the Moscow Metro are evaluated in terms of engineering, architecture, and art. Each station under consideration is unique and one of a kind and is regarded as a regional cultural heritage site for the people of the Russian Federation. The author concluded that the deep and shallow first-stage stations were built according to standard designs. However, architects sought to design the stations in a recognizable and individual style. Particular emphasis is placed on the importance of putting into practice the architectures’ idea while restoring Moscow metro stations. In recent years, there has been a restoration of stations on a scientific basis.
