The main historical stages of the emergence and development of the concept of countering the criminal opposition in places of detention in Russia are analyzed. It is concluded that the laws of self-organization among convicted persons led to the formation of a social phenomenon in the places of deprivation of liberty of Russia, known as the prison community. It is emphasized that throughout the entire period of the prison community, the official authorities made certain attempts to counteract this informal association of convicts and its leaders. It was noted that the main conceptual provisions of this counteraction included measures to isolate leaders from other members of the prison community, discredit them morally and bring them to various types of responsibility under the current legislation.
