St. Tikhon of Zadonsk is an important figure in the history of Russian patristic thought. Te writers studying the development of Russian religious culture often refer to the work of this ascetic of Zadonsk. However, an integral analysis of the transformation of views on the work of the saint among the researchers of his heritage is yet to be written. This article provides a first step in filling this gap. In the course of the analysis, three fairly important periods are distinguished in the study of the legacy of the Zadonsk ascetic: pre-revolutionary, Soviet, and post-Soviet. Each of the selected periods has its undoubted importance and plays its own role in the formation of the idea of St. Tikhon among the researchers of Russian religious culture today. Te study of the problem shows that the attention of researchers has been distributed unevenly. Some important, but not key themes in the life and writings of the ascetic have attracted the attention of researchers for the most part. At the same time, very important subjects, which had a much greater impact on the formation of the saint, have been virtually ignored by scholars
