Results of the study on the indications for the transfusion in elderly surgical patients

This review presents the results of a multicenter, randomized, prospective study of the effectiveness of red blood cells transfusions. It is concluded that it is advisable to refrain from transfusions in patients after surgery in the absence of symptoms of anemia and reduction of hemoglobin less than 80 g /1, even in elderly patients with cardiovascular disease or risk factors.
