Results of the study of small mammals fauna from Chagyrskaya cave (Northwestern Altai) in 2016

The article describes the results of analyzing small mammal fossil fauna from Chagyrskaya Cave (Krasnoshchekovo District, Altai Krai), which was obtained during the field season of 2016. The present study is a part of the comprehensive multidisciplinary research of this Middle Paleolithic site. The structure of fossil fauna only slightly changed across the layers, and predominantly contained the inhabitants of open biotopes (steppes, meadows, and rock placers) as well as species which have disappeared from the territory of the present-day Altai. Certain heterogeneity of the Holocene faunal composition has been observed, which requires further research.
