The results of the Chechen Akkins and ethnic Dagestanis’ resettlement related to the rehabilitation of repressed peoples and restoration of the Chechen-Ingush ASSR (the second half of the 1950s - the early 1960s)

The study analyzes and compares quantitative data on the population (immigrants of the 1940s), who returned to the Dagestan ASSR in the second half of the 1950s - the early 1960s (the Chechens from Central Asia and Kazakhstan, the Avars, Dargins and others from the restored Chechen-Ingush ASSR), which are available in modern historical literature on the issue of forced relocations. Based on previously published documents and new archival materials of the Central State Archives of the Republic of Dagestan, the research presents the results of returning the population to the Dagestan ASSR and the return of the part of the ethnic Dagestanis (Avars) to the Kvarelsky District of the Georgian SSR during the period under review. The author concluded that the state provided considerable assistance to displaced persons during their resettlement.
