Ivan Yakovlevich Kozachenko: on the Role of Personality in Science

The development of a scientifi c school is impossible without a leader who leads his students to new heights of scientifi c knowledge. Ivan Yakovlevich Kozachenko turned out to be such a leader for the Ural School of Criminal Law. The article traces the role of a great scientist and organizer of science, Honored Scientist of the Russian Federation, Doctor of Law, Professor I. Ya. Kozachenko in the formation and development of the Department of Criminal Law named after M. I. Kovalevsky Ural State Law University named after V. F. Yakovlev. Professor Kozachenko continued the work of his Teacher, Professor M. I. Kovalev, having identified the tradition sand main vectors of development of the Ural Criminal Law School. The work analyzes the biography of the scientist and the most significant works. The authors hares personal memories of his conversation with Professor Kozachenko. The numerous students of the scientist and the thematic diversity of dissertation research defended under the supervision of Ivan Yakovlevich are noted. At the end of the article, conclusions are formulated about the importance of the personality of Ivan Yakovlevich Kozachenko and his organizational talent for the modern Ural Criminal Law School.
