The article is the text of a report read at the II Scientific and Practical Conference “Empire and the Church”, held on May 12–13, 2021 at the St. Petersburg Theological Academy. The report provides a brief overview of the life and work of Marie, Queen of Romania, and also examines the features of state and personal relations between the imperial and royal families. Particular attention is paid to the participation of Queen Mary in politics and diplomacy at the beginning of the twentieth century. At the same time, noted is the specificity of the formation of the national Romanian policy in the context of the creation of a unitary state in the context of the collapse of the Russian and Austro- Hungarian empires. Made are conclusions about the unique historical destiny of Romania in the interwar period.
