There was about 20 libraries before the revolution in the grounds of Lavra: the oldest one was monasterial fraternal library, besides that there were book collections of diaconicum and choir aisles, cenobium and atheneum; Metropolitan library; fundamental, student, church libraries of the Saint Petersburg Orthodox Theological Academy, Alexander Nevsky Antoniev religious school and Isidorov diocesan women’s religious school, one-grade Church school of seminary and Isidorov school, two-grade Alexander Nevsky cantatory Church school of Metropolitan Choir and also a street library in «cupboards and frames». In this article the author attempts to reconstruct the various stages of the development of fraternal monasterial library.
