The article reveals the role of an academician V.S. Nemchinov in the development and the use of mathematical methods in economic research and planning. The role of V.S. Nemchinov in creation of a set of new interindustry balance models, and also in the field of organizational arrangement and development of economic and mathematical direction of the Soviet science is shown.
