An episode of the revolution of 1905 in the Russian Far East or how Ivan Kolesnikov became the «leader of the uprising» on October 31, 1905 in Vladivostok. TATIANA Z. POZNYAK (Institute of History, Archaeology and Ethnography of the Peoples of the Far East, Far Eastern Branch of Russian Academy of Sciences) The article represents a case-study devoted to an episode of the history of the Russian revolution of 1905 in the Far East, namely the revolt of the Vladivostok garrison on October 31, 1905 in Vladivostok. In Soviet historiography the events of May 30-31 were referred to as a «rebellion» and it was widely believed that on October 31 the rebellion took a more organized form and gained its leaders. In-depth study of the situation allows the author to show how the events of October 31, 1905 (the release of detainees and prison arson) were described and interpreted by their participants, as well as why Ivan Kolesnikov has become a «leader of the uprising» in the testimonies of eyewitnesses and then in the works of Soviet historians.
