Russian election system: searching for a compromise

Introduction: the article considers the features of the electoral system of the Russian Federation, analyzes how it corresponds to the level of development of Russian society, how much it allows realizing the principle of democracy. The strengths and weaknesses of the proportional and majority electoral systems are examined. The role and importance of preferential mechanisms in the implementation of a proportional electoral system is investigated. Materials and methods: the normative basis of the research is formed by the Constitution of the Russian Federation, Constitutional Law, and scientific research in the field of constitutional law. The methodological basis of the study was the general dialectic method of scientific knowledge, which is universal in nature, as well as the methods of logical deduction, induction, cognitive methods and techniques of comparison, analysis, generalization and description. Results of the study: revealed the shortcomings of the current electoral system, the relationship of the electoral system with civil society institutions; exposed the influence of a proportional electoral system on the formation of a multi-party system, to establish the shortcomings of the electoral system of the Russian Federation...
