The paper studies the dynamics of the number of appanage peasants, the number of villages and their population in the Totemsky Uyezd of the Vologda Province. Office-related archival sources and published documents were used for the analysis. It was revealed that between the V-X revisions in the appanage village of the Totemsky Uyezd there was a noticeable increase (by 57 %) in the male population and a coincidence of the average annual growth rates of men in the Spassky and Shevdenitsky appanage departments (Prikazs). On the contrary, the reduction in the number of appanage villages in the Uyezd turned out to be insignificant. Depending on the increase in the male population and, partly, on the decrease in the number of villages in the appanage volosts and Prikazs, the population of villages varied. Its average for appanage villages of the Totemsky Uyezd increased from 20 to 30 male souls between the V-X revisions. The demographic indicators studied in the appanage village of the Totemsky Uyezd exceeded their level in the appanage village of Solvychegodsk Uyezd, but were inferior to the level in the Vologda Province.
