Electromyographic characteristics of the locomotor movements under combined stimulation of the spinal cord and brain

We studied the effects of combined spinal and transcranial stimulation of the motor cortex to the motor output parameters during voluntary movements, mimicking the natural locomotion. We found a significantly greater growth of electromyographic activity while stimulating hip muscles on treadmill. The effect caused by the two-level stimulation persisted after we stopped stimuli. This could be due to residual processes in the neuronal networks of the spinal cord and brain.
