Image of the weapons on the medieval stone statues from southwestern part of Issyk Kul basin

We analyzed here the images of the weapons on the ancient Turkic stone statues, which the authors studied in the southwestern part of Issyk Kul Basin of Kyrgyzstan. One of them we obtained in the course of field research in the area near village of Ak Sai about 20 years ago. This statue mount in the yard of local school at a present moment. The ensheathed sable and dagger hang on the belt of statue, on the frontal side. On his head long hairs are let down on his back up to the waist and tied into numerous braids. On the frontal side of statue an artist depicted the rolls of outer garments like a wrapper and the bows in the right hand, bent at the elbow. Previously, researchers frequently found such statues in the Tian Shan, Semirechye, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Sinkiang Uighur Autonomous Region of China. According to data of medieval sources, such hairdo with plenty of braids was peculiar to the representatives of ruling elite in the Western Turkic Kaganate. The other two stone statues with image of weapons are situated in the museuam of Bokonbaevo village. The artist depict the triangular rolls of wrapper and vessel in the right hand on the frontal side of the statue. The head of statue hackled, left hand was depicted on the handle of bladed weapon, overhung on his belt. The ensheathed sable, overhung on the belt was depict on the frontal side of the other statue. The mace, plugged to waist-belt, was depict on the back of statue. The ancient Turkic stone statues are rarely preserved in place of their primary mounting, at the commemorative constructions. We surveyed the one in the valley to south from Koondoi Mountain and collected the data on the occurrences of such stone statues in the surrounding mountains.
