Fluorescent and quantitative characteristics of a photosynthetic pigmentary complex of leaves of Betula pendula Roth. and Betula litwinowii Doluch, growing at the heights of - 28 and 1800 m asl investigated. Reduction of quantity of chlorophyll on a high-rise profile is revealed that, we connect with intensive insolation in mountains, their destruction in an extreme environment - differences of daytime and night time temperatures, high level of ultra-violet radiation. The increase in quantity of carotinoids on a high-rise gradient that with protection of the photosynthetic device against destruction on light in the course of photooxidation in the conditions of the raised doses of an ultraviolet and ozone is noted.
