Studying of electoral processes in the State Duma of the Russian empire of the third convocation on the basis of geographic information systems

On the base of approaches and methods of historical geoinformatics with application of spatial visualization and the analysis of electoral processes, the article considers the possibilities of application of geographic information systems (GIS) in a research of history of State Duma elections of the 3rd convocation. By means of GIS technology the cards and cartograms displaying territorial distribution of provinces of the European part of the Russian Empire on the modernization level and separate sociocultural indicators, such as age, occupations and level of the agrarian movement in interrelation with results of elections have been created. The authors draw conclusions on opportunities of effective use of geoinformation technologies when studying the Duma elections at the beginning of the 20th century.
