Study of the structure of alkaline cellulose by SEM methods

The effect of alkaline treatment on the structure of wood pulp is considered. The results of studies of the morphology and elemental composition of cellulose before and after alkaline treatment are presented. It has been shown by electron and optical microscopy methods that the porosity of the surface of cellulose fibers increases during the treatment with NaOH alkali. Using X-ray microanalysis, it was found that the amount of lignin in alkaline cellulose samples decreases, providing an improvement in the reactivity of cellulose.
