The study of water energy resources in the Soviet Far East during the years of industrialization

The article is devoted to the history of studying the water energy resources of the Soviet Far East in the years of industrialization. The period of 1930s was marked by the active research of the natural resources of the Far East, the search for new sources of energy for the development of local industry. Numerous expeditions and prospecting parties have studied dozens of large and small Far Eastern rivers. Scientists and hydraulic engineers were able to study and practically assess the unique water energy potential of the region. They believed that hydropower plants would be able to provide a significant amount of cheap electric power for the national economy, thereby contributing to the socio-economic development of the region.
