In the context of the formation of Russian-Japanese relations of the pre-revolutionary period, the history of the Japanese diaspora in Nikolaevsk-on-Amur, one of the oldest settlements of the Russian Far East, is considered, its number is characterized, and the analysis of the employment zones of Japanese immigrants is carried out. The positive influence of the representatives of the diaspora on the development of trade, industrial and economic activities in the region and the development of economic relations between Russia and Japan in general was noted. The relations between the Russian population and the Japanese during this period are assessed as an example of mutually beneficial cooperation and peaceful living of the two peoples, which should be taken into account in the modern diplomatic dialogue between our countries.
