Language policy of the Russian Federation (1991-1999)

While inheriting the political and military legacy of the Soviet Union, Russia also inherited a multi-ethnic and multicultural state and a complex linguistic situation. The language policies of the Soviet period had a very important impact on the language environment of the Russian Federation in 1991-1999. This article takes the language policy of the Soviet period as the background for the development and implementation of language policy in the Russian Federation during 1991-1999. Based on the main legal documents of 1991-1999 this article analyzes the main elements of the language policy of the Russian Federation in this period and its characteristics.
