Language situation in the Republic of Kalmykia

The article deals with the major features of language situation in the Republic of Kalmykia in the context of implementation of the multilingualism approaches in Russia. The author reviews the current practices of Kalmyk language and literature teaching in the Republic’s system of education. Using the data of 2015 expert survey, the author discusses the prospects of tension escalation in case this educational approach is shutdown. The paper emphasizes the necessity of the state support of Kalmyk language to provide political stability in the Republic.
