The article deals with the specifics of the relationship of Edgar Allan Poe with the literary and journalistic circles of New York in the connection with the publication in the Philadelphia magazine “Godey's Lady's Book” the series of literary portraits titled “Writers of New York”, which caused the ambiguous reactions by contemporaries. “Writers of New York” published in Philadelphia magazine “Godey's Lady's Book” from May to October 1846. The manuscript of “Writers” is lost, so the text is reproduced in the future on the magazine version, which was based and literary executor of Poe's - Rufus Wilmot Griswold. He published “Writers of New York” in book form a year after the death of Edgar Poe, adding that the other critical work and essay writer.
