The effectiveness of the functioning of the Russian public sector in the national economy in the course of transformational processes and prospects for its development

The current circumstances in which the Russian economy is forced to exist are the driver of transformational processes in the entire national economy. In this regard, the work aims to analyze the scale and effectiveness of the public sector of the economy in Russia and identify some prospects for its development. The analysis is based on statistical data from Federal State Statistics Service and research by scientists in the field of analysis of the public sector of the economy. Based on the analysis, conclusions were drawn about the scale of the public sector in Russia and its effectiveness, and indicators were proposed to assess the scale of the public sector. The dominant position of the public sector over the private sector in terms of participation in GDP and total capitalization of the stock market is revealed. The special efficiency of the public sector of the economy in labor productivity is noted. Since Russia at the present stage is a state in transition from an industrial to a post-industrial economy, a comparison of the public and private sectors in the volume of research and development activities is also considered, where an almost equal ratio of these sectors is revealed. The prospects of increasing the efficiency of the public sector of the Russian economy are proposed.
