Effectiveness of Internet-crime prevention measures

Introduction: the author evaluates the preventive effect of criminal penalties and criminological measures of internet crime prevention. Materials and Methods: the results and conclusions were on the analysis of statistical data on crimes committed through the use of modern IT, statistical data on criminal conviction in Russia, content analysis of criminal conviction on internet crimes. Results: the author concludes that the preventive effect of criminal penalties is not only in reduction of certain types of crimes but in the changes in the way they are done so as to reduce the likelihood of criminal prosecution for criminals. Discussion and Conclusions: the author comes to the conclusion that criminal penalties are effective usually to prevent those internet crimes in which part of the criminal activity is carried out in physical space. In cases where criminals carry out illegal activities abroad (mainly fraud), the main burden of prevention is placed on measures of criminological prevention. © Bytko S.Yu., 2022
