Comparative analysis of levels of neuroactive steroid hormones (NS) has shown a reliable decrease of progesterone (PG) in blood in alcoholic patients as compared with concentration of PG in healthy volunteers. Investigation of level of cortisol (CS) has revealed significant heightening of concentration of this steroid in serum of blood in alcoholic patients. More severe alterations have been revealed in patients of Tuvinian nationality. Preparations normalizing balance of NS, modulating function of GABA ARs, are perspective in treatment of alcohol withdrawal and alcoholism. Course application of original anticonvulsant Galodif (meta-chlor-benzhydrylurea) for 21 day at daily dose 300 mg in patients in withdrawal and post-withdrawal state provoked reduction of severity of symptoms typical for alcohol withdrawal syndrome. Dynamic of indices according to Hamilton Scale was quicker and severe in investigated group of patients. Galodif decreased level of CS as much as 138 % and increased level of PG as much as 160 % in serum of blood in alcoholic patients approximating them to level of hormones in healthy persons. Alteration of levels of steroid hormones in blood of alcohol patients reflects disturbance of regulation of steroid (CS and PG) as one of mechanisms of development of compulsive craving to alcohol.
