The purpose of the research was determination of efficiency of young cattle breeding in individual lodges for calves "Plasto" in comparison with a traditional method - breeding in the calf house. The research was conducted under the production conditions of an entrepreneurship Galanov I.N. in Dmitrovsky district, the Orel region. For carrying out the research 12 newborn heifer calves of Holstein breed were selected. They were divided into two groups with the method of couple’s analogs. The calves of 10 days old of the control group were transferred into unheated place and they were contained there in a group. The calves of the second experimental group after their birth were placed into individual lodges "Plasto". Before it they were carefully wiped with the straw and dried with infrared lamps. As a result the research showed that breeding calves in separate lodges allows to increase clean and average daily growth by 10.3%, energy of calf growth by 4.3%. Prime cost of 1 kg of live weight gain of calves up to 2-months old decreases by 12.9% in comparison with breeding in the calf house. There is an increase in consumption of forage by 16.4% in comparison with breeding in the calf house. At the same time, the cost of vegetable feed increases by 9.0% while other costs decrease by 23.3%. The content of ammonia in the air is higher when keeping calves in the calf house, in comparison with separate lodges and was above the maximum permitted concentration. The difference was 76.8-94.4%.
