The article discusses how the income effect and the substitution effect interact with each other, as well as their essence and the reaction of consumers to price changes. The effect of income and substitution effect on various types of goods is studied. We consider the functional dependence of the magnitude of demand on price changes for a particular product, for two obvious reasons.
