Ekphrasis of arts and crafts in A. S. Byatt's novel «The children's book»

The article investigates the ekphrastic discourse of arts and crafts in the novel «The Children's Book» (2009) written by the British contemporary writer A. S. Byatt. The importance of this discourse for Art Nouveau and «silver age» of European culture is emphasised. Verbal images of the real and imaginary works (church and domestic utensils, metal and ceramic works, jewellery), methods and principles of their creation are thoroughly considered. Their characterological, narrative, compositional and chronotopical functions in the artistic system of the novel are revealed.
