The ecological culture of society and the ways of its development

The study defines the significance of ecological culture for society, examines its components and the possible ways of its development for each member of society. The authors prove the need for integrating the environmental policy with the population’s consciousness which implies the awareness that the environmental ideas are to be introduced into all areas of life. The research shows that ecocentric consciousness is an ideal version of the culture of world society for the biosphere. It describes different ways of developing the ecological culture among citizens. These ways complement the environmental education and enlightenment technique stipulated in Chapter XIII of the Law on Environmental Protection. The possible motivations to build the population’s ecological culture are described. The paper provides a list of the teacher’s professional competencies that are necessary for environmental training of students in all aspects of education. Besides, the principles of environmental education at school and university are presented.
