Language ecology in the region's perspective: formulation of the problem (on materials of the Republic of Buryatia)

The article analyzes characteristics of language development in the present conditions, the role of language in the development of ethnic culture and its connection with the life of ethnic groups, the state language policy in multinational state. The research is based on the ecological approach to the definition of language. The authors analyze factors influencing the degree of the Buryat language vitality in modern conditions. One of the main problems in the development of the Buryat language is narrowing its range of using to the family and domestic sphere. The Buryat language is only partially represented in the educational and cultural spheres, its use in the scientific field can be considered quite symbolic. The community, educational institutions, mass media, different levels of government of the Republic of Buryatia implement various activities that contribute to the creation of a special language environment. The article concerns measures for providing language situation. To solve this problem a special mechanism that would account the specifics of cultural and educational environment in the Republic of Buryatia is needed.
